There was a bad accident in the village today.
Received 2 calls for ambulance, locations were abt 1-2km apart. The driver went to one according to his judgement which was more urgent.
We all knew there will be a few casualties at this point. Just unsure of how bad it was.
After a while, a boy was sent to us directly. He looked very much in pain but we didnt know it was serious till his shirt was lifted. OMGGGGGGGG.....what appeared in front of me was exposed intestines.
OKAY....I tried to stay calm and moved to aside to not obstruct the doctors and other staff for rescue.
Heard that it was a passer-by who sent the boy here. He chose this boy to send here coz the others were too "scary" to even touch at, according to him. One had his face full of blood while another had his leg completely smashed. What he didnt know was that this boy he chose to send here was not any better actually. opened abdomen hidden under his shirt that this kind passer-by uncle didnt see.
So, every staff in the clinic rushed in and helped the doctor. Except a few of us who knew nth abt handling big wound like tat. (Feel so useless at a moment like this, even the lab ppl came to help)
I stood aside, witnessed the whole procedure. Doctor kept calling the patient to keep him awake while every pair of hands doing the wrapping up. The boy was half conscious i would say and calling out for his mom from time to time. The family came abt 10mins after the boy was here. His elder bro looked at us who stood aside and asked if he will be alive. My colleague replied in their religious language saying tat he will be in god's will. I just cant take it seeing his crystal clear tear dropping off in a suffering moment like tat.
After abt 30 mins, the ambulance was back. MA quickly communicated regarding patient's condition and procedure done here before sending the patient to the hospital.
As this is a small village, we later learnt of the incident after the ambulance driver was back from the hospital. There was this lorry stopping by the roadside to unload things. There came a car driving super fast from behind and banged the lorry and itself skidded off to a distance. In the process, it hit the boy who was just outside his own house by the roadside. Then somehow it also involved a motorcyclist in his 70s whose leg was unfortunately gone in this incident. It turned out that the two calls for ambulance were this same accident.
Wish all the casualties speedy recovery.
Moral of the story:
1. Road accident is scary and can be deadly. Must be super careful on the road especially when it is kampung road.
2. Small clinic does hv its function. Serving small clinic in a village is kinda the same as serving big hospital, coz you are still serving ppl in need.
3. Although it seems like clinic staff are very free most of the times, at a time like this, everyone works as a team and this is what matters most for me.
4. Learn! First aid and all.
